The power cuts in cities, including Hyderabad, and towns are sure to continue till the end of kharif season in the middle of August, Transco officials said. The state on Wednesday directed the power utilities to ensure that farmers are provided seven-hour uninterrupted free power during the sowing season.Wednesday, Hyderabad, Tirupati, Warangal and Visakhapatnam are under three hours of power cuts every day which will be split into two spells of one and half hours each. In Hyderabad region, the 3 hour power cuts are already in place, but residents have complained that they are going without power for about 5 hours a day.
All district headquarters are being subjected to 5 hours of power cut everyday in two equal spells, while towns, municipalities and mandal headquarters are experiencing 6 hours of power cut in two equal spells. The situation is worse in the rural areas with the power supply restricted to only daytime and street lighting provided between 6 pm and 6 am.
